Materials

Terrain: asphalt, gravel, parks, mixed surfaces

Rinse mud and dirt off as soon as you can, while it's still wet.
Never machine wash Salomon shoes and never use washing powder or soap — Salomon state this damages them.
Loosen the laces, take the insoles out and rinse them separately.
Rinse under running water, using a soft brush or sponge on stubborn dirt.
Air dry at room temperature away from direct sun and radiators; newspaper inside speeds it up.
Store loose with air around them, not sealed in a plastic bag.

Salomon's advice is to fit by space and feel rather than assuming your street size carries over. Aim for about a thumb's width — roughly 1cm — between your longest toe and the end of the shoe; that's what prevents bruised toes and black toenails on long descents.

Then check the back: your heel should be locked in and shouldn't slip. Feet swell on long runs and in heat, so try shoes on at the end of the day, in the socks you'll actually run in.

Trace and measure your foot, then check it against Salomon's size chart rather than guessing.
Your heel should not lift or slip when you walk.
